The crew will search the sea until our guests have had the best possible Marine Big 5 experience. The Dyer Island Cruises crew has years of experience in southern right whales as well as the fast marine wildlife that we have in the area. They have worked with various international film crews, photographers and scientists. They can provide clients with detailed information about the Southern Right Whale as well as other marine wildlife of the Dyer Island area. All the crew are qualified site guides to make your experience more memorable.
The combination of both companies, Marine Dynamics and Dyer Island Cruises, bring together expertise unsurpassed in the tourism industry, combining field experience and knowledge from different fields into one team. Our staff will welcome you in person when you arrive at the Great White House in Kleinbaai: Marilie Coetzee (Reservations)Sone Boshoff (Marketing), , Ronelle Swart (Accountant), Zile de Kock (Marketing), and Natalie Marthinus (Reservations) as well as Albert Scholtz. Our two friendly crew members, Vumanie (Kira) Matiwane and Kwezi Baleni, will make your day a memorable one. Both Kira and Kwezi are from the local community, and have a deep knowledge of the area..
Wilfred Chivell: Wilfred is the owner of both Dyer Island Cruises & Marine Dynamics. He is also a qualified skipper. He grew up in the area and has been a spear-fisherman and wreck diver for over 20 years. He took part in gruelling offshore boat races in the early nineties. Wilfred is very passionate about conservation, and therefore started the Dyer Island Conservation Trust (www.dict.org.za) who manages all the conservation projects, including the African Penguin housing project called Faces of Need. He has a long relationship with conservation and has worked with the South African Cultural History Museum, Maritime Museum and South African Museum in Cape Town; and the Shipwreck Museum in Bredasdorp. Wilfred has a vast amount of knowledge and is very familiar with the Dyer Island area. He has also worked with top marine wildlife photographers as well as scientists specialising in whales, dolphins, seals and seabirds. He has also visited the Prince Edward Islands as a member of the bird team to do counts on penguin and albatross colonies. Wilfred also assisted an international team with the tagging of Cape fur seals at Dyer Island.

Albert Sholtz: Albert is a qualified skipper as well as site guide and joined Dyer Island Cruises in 2006. He has in depth knowledge of the area as well as the fast marine wildlife that we find on this beautiful piece of coast. Albert enjoys entertaining our guests to make their trip even more memorable, with their safety and comfort as his main priority.
Vumanie (Kira) Matiwane: Kira is a qualified site guide and has been with the company for five whale seasons. He is our whale whistler / spotter which eyes like a hawk, as he can spot a whale, miles away. Kira has a vast knowledge about the area with all its marine wildlife. Kira is also a keen bird spotter for the bird enthusiasts on our trips.
Kwezi Baleni: Kwezi is a qualified site guide and has been with the company for four whale seasons. Kwezi performs a very important job on the boat besides of being an excellent guide, as he is also our ‘seasick doctor’. Kwezi has a vast knowledge about the area as well as the marine wildlife in our area.
